By Abigael Wambua
Professor Robert Osei-Bonsu, A General Vice-President to the General Conference President was one of the leaders who attended the East kenya Union Conference Special Constituency Meeting conducted at the Adventist University of Africa. As a leader, Prof. Osei Bonsu was given achnce to give a devotion on the second day of the proceedings. Speaking under the profound theme, “When God Calls for Restoration,” Professor Robert delivered a stirring message that framed the entire purpose of the special constituency meeting. He started by reminding the delegation that restoration is both a divine invitation and a steadfast promise.
“Let’s not just hold a meeting; let’s meet with God,” Professor Robert urged, setting a solemn tone for the day. He emphasized that the true stakes of the gathering reach far beyond administrative paperwork. “What is at stake is our witness, not our reports. God is not only a God of judgment, but a God of restoration.”

A Call to Repentance and Surrender
Throughout the devotion, Professor Robert challenged the assembled leaders and delegates to embrace genuine humility. He noted that God is actively calling His church to fully surrender to Him and turn away from pride.
“God is calling His church to repentance, not defensiveness,” he stated plainly, warning the delegates that “we can sound spiritual and still refuse repentance.” He noted that true repentance is not simply one of many choices on the table, declaring, “Repentance is the doorway the Lord has opened. It is not among the options; is the only option we have.”
Prioritizing Mission Over Self
Professor Robert made an impassioned plea for unity, healing, and self-sacrifice. He reminded the delegation that the survival and integrity of the church’s regional work must always eclipse personal ambitions. “Protecting our church must be greater than protecting ourselves. Mission must be greater,” he urged. He strongly advised the delegation to “choose healing and not winning, the question is not who will prevail today, but whether Christ will prevail among us.”

Healing the Damage and Moving Forward
Acknowledging that the region has faced complex hurdles, Professor Robert assured the delegates that divine intervention is the only path forward. “Only God can heal the damage and not only the damage, but the duration of the damage as well,” he stated.
